DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Christmas Care and Share program has started at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.Â
Volunteers help set up Toys for Tots shopping experience for families.Â
A large space inside the church has been dedicated to Decatur and Macon County Toys for Tots, and the community has donated thousands of toys.Â
"The community is very giving," said Melody Scroggins, co-chair for Toys for Tots.Â
Since October, the community has donated thousands of toys for more than 3,000 children to unwrap on Christmas morning.Â
Throughout the week, parents who signed up for assistance from Dove, Inc., The Salvation Army, and Northeast Community Fund will pick out toys and items they want to gift their children this Christmas.Â
"My favorite part is watching the parents shop for their kids," said Scroggins.Â
The Christmas Care and Share brings out Decatur's best, with hundreds of volunteers dedicating time to helping families find the perfect gifts and helping provide other assistance they may need.Â
Sangamon County Toy for Tots has announced its inaugural kickoff event for the 2025 campaign in Springfield.Â
"It truly shows that Decatur comes together and that we are one," said Ryan Huff, Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Dove, Inc.Â
People can still donate to Toys for Tots.
