MACON, Ill. (WAND) — Be on the lookout during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade because a local high school student will be part of the excitement.
Caden Ford, a Meridian High School Senior, will be playing the trombone for the Macy's Great American Marching Band on Thursday during the parade.
"It is something he has talked about and it's something he has wanted to take part in," said Stephanie Ford, Caden's mother.
Music has always been a part of Caden's life. From a young age, his mother said Caden would listen to music and dance to it.
"It put him in the best light and best mood," his mom said.
It wasn't until 5th grade when Caden picked up an instrument and that's when his love for music grew. Once in high school, he joined the Meridian High School band, mastering the trombone and then learning how to play other brass instruments.
"Band is really fun," said Caden. "I love the music. It's super loud and obviously, the trombone is the loudest player."

Caden worked hard to be the best trombone player he could be. He even attended camps to master marching. It wasn't until summer when he wanted to take his talents to national TV. Caden decided in August to audition for the Macy's Great American Marching Band.
"I had to go against the whole country for that position," he said.
After posting a YouTube video with his audition, it was just a few days later Caden received an email congratulating him on being selected to play trombone in the parade.
"I was freaking out," he shared.
On Saturday, Nov. 19 Caden flew to New York City to prepare for the big day. On Thanksgiving morning, he will wake up early, get his uniform on, and prepare for the big parade.
Caden's family said they could not have made this dream a reality without support from the family, friends, Meridian High School, Meridian Elementary School, and the music booster club.
