URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - A man has been sentenced to decades in prison for the home invasion and rape of a University of Illinois student in 2021.Â
In the early morning hours of July 8, 2021, a student woke up to a stranger standing in her residence, showing what she believed to be a gun and making demands.Â
The student was raped by the man, identified as Kevin Finley of Urbana.Â
Finley was arrested in July of 2021 and charged with home invasion and aggravated criminal sexual assault.Â
He was found guilty by a Champaign County Jury in May 2023.Â
On January 4, 2024, Finley appeared in court for sentencing. He was also suspected, but not criminally charged in multiple sexual abuse cases where he allegedly assaulted several women by grabbing their buttocks in public in Urbana before his initial arrest in 2021. The court also considered a 2015 case from Panama City, Florida, where Finley was arrested for human trafficking and procuring a person under 18 for prostitution.Â
Finley was sentenced to 35 years for aggravated criminal sexual assault and additional ten years for criminal sexual abuse.Â
