MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) — A Mattoon man who is charged with attempted murder after a hit-and-run has entered a plea of not guilty.
In November, a Coles County judge denied pretrial release for Dale Collier. He was again denied pretrial release when he appeared in court recently.Â
Mattoon Police arrested Collier, 53, after officers responded to a hit-and-run crash on November 19. Police said the victim was expected to be okay.Â
Collier was initially arrested for attempted reckless homicide, police say, but his charge was later upgraded to attempted first degree murder by the Coles County State's Attorney's Office after further investigation.Â
WAND News requested a charging document from the state's attorney's office to learn more about the reason behind the upgrade.Â
Collier has requested a jury trial and will be in court again January 26 at 2 p.m. for a status hearing.
