MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) — A Monticello family has transformed their home into a Christmas destination with twinkling lights and the big man in red.

"My main goal in life, besides the Christmas season, is to make people happy. To see the joy and the smiles on the kids' faces, it just warms my heart," Andy Miller told WAND News.

Miller started this magical Christmas display to spread neighborhood cheer during the pandemic.

"We just kind of just kept it going, and as you can see we kind of made it bigger and bigger and bigger," Miller explained.

When he moved from Bement to Monticello two years ago, he saw the chance to reach even more families.

"We moved into this house, and I saw this open yard, I was like a painter seeing a blank canvas," Miller added.

Each year, new items are added to the display, synced to holiday music you can tune into with an FM radio. Miller's son now helps with the display as well.

"Probably two days after Halloween, I just started doing my homework and automatically hopped outside and stated putting them up," Holden Miller, Andy's son told WAND News.

"He went from being a little boy, handing daddy lights, to this year stepping up and doing a lot of the display himself while I was at work," Andy Miller said.

For Miller, spreading cheer is the reason for the season.

"To bring joy to them, and to see them happy, and for them to get enjoyment out of my display — that's the true meaning to Christmas, to me," Miller said.
