Mobile clinic hits Champaign

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA Ill. (WAND) - Carle Foundation Hospital has officially launched its first mobile health clinic.

The clinic was made for patients who have difficulty getting around. Whether that is through bus, car, bike, or even walking, Carle wants to provide the best care for the community.

The 40-foot treatment unit is to treat non-medical emergencies.

"We'll treat acute illnesses, provide basic wellness, help support local schools, preschools, physicals, immunizations, and help make connections with other health care organizations for primary care and wellness," said Community Health Initiative President Julianna Sellett.

But helping toddlers and adults medically is not the only goal.

"We want to talk about their medical issue, we want to talk about their home environment, we want to talk about their need," said Mobile Health Clinic Director Lynn Ullestad. "Do they have a food issue? Do they have a social service issue? We'll bring a social worker with us and that social worker will be able to help them navigate what social service agencies are available."

Carle hopes to treat as many underserved communities as possible and branch out more mobile clinics to serve the community.
