New forensics lab opened in southern Illinois

LOGAN COUNTY – Illinois State Police say a woman is seriously injured after she and another person were thrown from a motorcycle on Interstate 55.

Troopers were on the scene of the crash on Interstate 55 north’s on-ramp, at interchange 126, at 7:23 PM on Sunday, June 19. At this time, they are unsure of what caused the crash.

Crash scene investigators report 63-year-old Rodney Alberts, of Lincoln, was riding his motorcycle north on I-55 on the ramp when, for unknown reasons, his motorcycle left the right side of the ramp and down a grass embankment.

Both Alberts and 60-year-old Jill Alberts, also of Lincoln, were then thrown from the motorcycle as it exited the roadway.

Rodney Alberts was taken to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, and Jill Alberts was airlifted for serious injuries.

This investigation is ongoing, but a charge of improper lane usage is pending at this time.
