DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A motorcyclist was killed after striking two different utility poles in Decatur.

Police were called to the intersection of N. Main St. and McKinley Ave. at 6:45 a.m. Monday.

Decatur Police said a 22-year-old motorcyclist was traveling south on Main St. approaching McKinley. The motorcycle left the east side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Police said the motorcyclist then continued to travel southbound and struck a second utility pole.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet and had a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license.

DPD said it is unknown at this time if the operator of the motorcycle was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Members of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash. 

The motorcyclist's name has not been released.
