DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - At the Decatur City Council meeting on Monday night, a new member was sworn in. Her name is Consuelo Cruz, and she describes herself as a community-focused leader eager to bring change to the city.
"My priority will be what is best for the residents of Decatur," said Cruz.Â
One major focus for Cruz during her four-year term is to establish a strong relationship with the school district, which she believes will positively influence housing.
"That impacts having people who are employable, it impacts the declining population, keeping the tax base by keeping citizens here, that is a big priority for me," said Cruz.Â
Cruz has been a research scientist for 20 years. She believes that the skills she has gained will provide her with new perspectives and enable her to support her fellow council members in the best way possible.
"I look forward to applying some of that to getting some goals accomplished here as a city councilwoman," said Cruz.
Council members David Horn and Ed Culp were re-sworn in during the meeting to serve another four-year term.
