DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- Thanksgiving shopping days have officially kicked off at Northeast Community Fund.
According to Assistant director Sharon Bunch, they have been extremely busy.
She says she came in at 6 a.m. to prepare, and there was already a line at the door.
“We’re totally blessed with the community food drive, and United Way, that collaboration helping us to fund it as well as our donors, volunteers coming in,” said Bunch.
Due to the high volume of activity at the event, each person is allowed to shop in the Thanksgiving section only once. If someone needs to shop again, they will be asked not to visit the holiday section.
This approach ensures that everyone has the opportunity to obtain as much food as possible for Thanksgiving
“We’re blessed and just totally overwhelmed with the outpouring in the community to help us provide this, to those that have that insecurity. And it’s the holidays,” said Bunch.
The event will continue through the 22nd, and then have its final days on November 25th and 26th.
Participants are encouraged to arrive 20 minutes early to check in for shopping.
