CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - After severe weather moved through central Illinois on Wednesday, the City of Charleston has declared a state of emergency.Â
According to the City, officials are working through response and recovery efforts following significant storm damage in the area.Â
Charleston residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay off the roads while cleanup efforts are underway.Â
Also, community members must stay alert for hazardous conditions and avoid downed power lines and other dangerous areas.Â
Residents are encouraged to stay updated through the City of Charleston and Coles County Emergency Management Agency.Â
