Held Captures National Spotlight At Rio

Springfield - Central Illinois' Olympic Star is heading home this week. 

Ryan Held, an Sacred Heart-Griffin graduate, will return to Springfield this Friday as SHG takes on Decatur MacArthur. 

This will be Held's first time home since winning gold at the 2016 Rio Olympic games. Held won gold competing in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay alongside Michael Phelps. 

Held will arrive at the West Campus by motorcade at 5:30pm. The public will line Washington Street starting at the Fairhills Shopping Center to celebrate him. The public is invited to come out and get their photo taken with Held and get an autograph from 5:30-6:45pm on the south side of the SHG sports complex. 

During halftime Held will be recognized by Governor Bruce Rauner, the House of Representatives and Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder. 

Held is currently a Junior at North Carolina State University.
