PEORIA, Ill. (WAND) — OSF Healthcare has joined other area health systems in taking precautions against respiratory illness this season.

In a social media post, OSF announced that beginning Dec. 31, "all employees, patients and visitors at our hospitals are required to wear masks due to the widespread respiratory illnesses in our communities, including COVID-19, influenza and RSV."

Visitor restrictions similar to HSHS and Memorial Health will also be put in place: two healthy adult visitors per patient at a time.

Temporary visitor restrictions have been recommended by the Illinois Department of Public Health due to the statewide increase in illnesses like COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.

Pertussis, or whooping cough, cases are also on the rise with over 1,900 confirmed and probable pertussis cases in Illinois this year, according to IDPH.
