SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — "Every day I wake up, I'm still missing a part of me because I don't have him anymore" shares Richard Davis.Â
The Davis Family are just one of many sharing their stories with the world at the Out of the Darkness Community Walk.
The event, brought hundreds of people together to honor and spread awareness of suicide.Â
One of the special features at the walk, was a station of colored, honor beads. Executive Director of the Illinois Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Angela Cummings shares that the beads, "...signify a person's connection to the cause, so they can look across the crowd and know instantly that person knows exactly what I've gone through."
The event hopes to continue being an outlet and source of comfort for those impacted by suicide.Â
Organizers want to remind people that if they are in a crisis, they should call or text 988. They will be connected with someone who can help.
