SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Over 90 Vietnam-era veterans will have the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C., to be honored for their service during the upcoming Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.Â
Ninety-three veterans and their guardians will report at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, to the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, and fly to Washington, D.C.Â
Once the veterans arrive in the nation's capital, they will visit the World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War Memorials, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Air & Space Museum, the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, the U.S. Air Force Memorial, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.Â
Veterans and guardians will return to Springfield at 9:30 p.m. the same night.Â
The day of honor is free to veterans through donations from the public.Â
Members of the community, family, friends and others are encouraged to give everyone a hero's welcome as they return home.Â
