LITCHFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Montgomery County Coroner, Randy Leetham, identified a woman killed on Illinois Route 16 on Tuesday.
Rachel L. Marsala, 38, of the Litchfield-area, was struck by a vehicle on Rt. 16 in front of the Illinois State Police headquarters. ISP was already in the area due to reports of a person in the roadway.
Litchfield Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Litchfield Police, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office responded to assist state police.
Marsala was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:40 p.m. by the coroner.
The Department of Transportation provided traffic control and road closure while state police conducted an investigation.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 19 in Springfield.
