A drug bust leads to the arrests of three people in the 500 block of East Thompson in Hoopeston Sunday evening.

Police seized 540 pounds of marijuana around 8:45 p.m. Sunday night. That has an estimated street value of more than $1.8-million.

Three people are in custody right now at the Vermilion County jail. Those individuals are 27-year-old, Juan Garcia of Mexico, 27-year-old, Jose Davila of Mission, Texas and 44-year-old, Melba Sanchez of Bay City, Texas.

Police say they were taken into custody for cannabis trafficking and unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver more than 2500 grams. Those charges are class X felonies.

The three people have not been formally charged yet. They were arrested by the east central Illinois task force with the assistance of several area police departments.

The arrests were part of an on-going investigation that had been taking place the last few weeks. Police expect to make several more arrests in this case.
