NEOGA, Ill. (WAND) – A local sailor is being recognized for his role in a historic space mission recovery.
Macen Stodden, a graduate of Neoga High School, recently helped recover the Artemis II spacecraft following its journey around the Moon.
According to a post by the Neoga CUSD #3 on Facebook, Stodden serves in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John P. Murtha, where he worked as the Ballast Console Operator during the recovery mission—an essential role in stabilizing the ship and supporting safe operations at sea.
His efforts placed him among a select group of sailors who had the opportunity to meet and speak with the astronauts after their return.
Following the successful recovery, Stodden received a letter of commendation recognizing his contributions both leading up to and during the mission.
He is the son of Peggy and Ben Stodden of Neoga.
Community members are celebrating his accomplishments, as he brings hometown pride to a mission of national and global significance.
