DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A man was arrested after police said he ran from officers in Danville, driving into oncoming traffic and hitting another car.

Danville police said on March 30 at 10:20 a.m., DPD learned a vehicle was driving erratically in the area of Vermilion St. and Liberty St.

An officer responding in the area said they saw a vehicle pulling out of a business in the 3600 block of N. Vermilion St. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but they said the driver, later identified as 54-year-old Norman Potts of Danville, refused and sped away.

DPD said Potts drove into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle as he tried to turn into a business in the 3900 block of N. Vermilion St.

Potts was taken into custody. Police said they found 100 grams of suspected fentanyl and about 50 grams of suspected cannabis in the vehicle.

Potts was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was later discharged and taken to the Vermilion County Jail on preliminary charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and Driving While License Suspended.

The driver of the other vehicle that Potts hit was treated on scene and released.
