Process begins for teardown of former Fairview Plaza Kroger store

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The process has begun for the teardown of the former Kroger store in Fairview Plaza. 

The location had served customers for more than 60 years. 

Talks to take it down reached a boiling point in 2018 when dozens of customers protested, yelling "Save our store!" 

The company said the location was not profitable. 

Fairview Park Plaza is owned by Main Street Properties. 

The company's website states it is accepting new leases for the plaza.
