URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — A procession was held Monday in honor of fallen Illinois State Police Trooper Corey Thompsen. 

Trooper Thompsen was killed Friday in a line-of-duty crash in Champaign County. 

The procession was scheduled to leave Urbana around 1 p.m. and travel on US-150 from the west to N. Third St. to Freese Funeral Home in St. Joseph.

Trooper Thompsen was on-duty and had just finished a traffic stop around 3:45 p.m. Friday when was traveling east on East Leverett Road approaching County Road 1300 East in Champaign County. ​

ISP said a truck, driven by a 32-year-old Thomasboro woman was traveling south on County Road 1300 E. and stopped at the intersection with Leverett Road. ​

She then pulled into the roadway hitting Trooper Thompsen’s motorcycle.

ISP said a witness provided aid until first responders arrived and took Trooper Thompsen to Carle Hospital in Urbana where he died from his injuries at 4:32 p.m. ​

The driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ISP said the woman was cited for failure to yield right of way at a stop intersection and no valid driver’s license – expired less than 1 year.

Trooper Thompsen was 28 years old and served almost five years as an officer with ISP and was assigned to the Special Operations Group Fatal Four team. ​ He is survived by his wife Chelsea, mother Susan, father Steve, and brothers.
