Illinois Capitol Night

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — As late results came in from Champaign County Wednesday morning, Rep. Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) received enough support to keep his 104th House seat.

23,163 people voted for Schweizer while Democratic challenger Jarrett Clem (D-Champaign) got support from 22,392 voters. The final tally came down to just over 770 votes following an intense battle shown through attack ads in the weeks leading up to Election Day.

Although, it could take several days before every vote-by-mail ballot is counted for the 104th race. That tally could change the outcome of the election.

Schweizer is technically an incumbent, but he has been in office a little less than a year. The Republican was appointed to the seat after former Rep. Mike Marron (R-Fithian) retired.

The retired Marine Corps master sergeant is dedicated to ensuring veterans get the support they deserve. Schweizer blasted Illinois House Democrats this spring for providing more funding for migrant services in Chicago than veterans affairs.

The 104th House districts covers parts of Champaign and Vermilion counties.
