Residents are last minute shopping from both big and small businesses

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — With Christmas in just 5 days, the rush to find those last minute Christmas gifts is on.

For Art Farm owner and operator Peggy Baity, she's confident that the local artists can provide the perfect gift.

"As far as the last minute thing, you're going to find exactly what you need in here to fit the bill. We are the hard to buy for shop. If you think you can't find it, give us a try, and I bet you walk out with something," said Baity.

For Janet Peacock, she was able to find just what she needed for the creative souls in her life.

"The artwork here is amazing. So I have a lot of artists in my family, so coming over and getting a nice painting for them…they had some really neat Freddy Krueger paintings," she said.

All Things Beautiful has been busy this past week, and Sheryol Threewit agrees that local shopping is very personal.

"It is definitely personal because you can actually find things that you won't find on the web..And they find things they won't find anywhere else.. And with amazon going on strike, we're definitely open to all of that," said Threewit.

The use of Amazon can contribute to adding to the cart at last minute, but there are also shipping issues as Amy Harper, a last minute shopper found,

"A gift didn't come from Amazon, so I needed to get something else for somebody. My boyfriend and my roommate."

For students, late shopping isn't uncommon either.

"You know, just haven't had time with finals and everything, so coming to get it in hopefully," said Braeden Walker, a student at Mt. Mount Zion High School.

Another student, Drake Clark added, "I just didn't have time, I work so I'm busy."

Speaking of being busy, Christmas can be even more hectic with events for school-agers, let alone shopping for them, as Taylor Rawley, a bell-ringer prepares her last minute shopping after her shift,

"I've been trying to spend more time with family, and I'm just like, honestly, this year doesn't feel like Christmas so close. I'm just like so many days until Christmas.The shopping, regular shopping is done except for the stocking-stuffers."
