(NBC) – One clothing retailer is thriving.

Old Navy plans to open hundreds of new stores after splitting from its parent company, The Gap.

As a standalone company, Old Navy, which offers more affordable clothing and accessories, plans to open 860 stores in North America.

It's said it would focus on opening outlets in smaller markets and off-mall locations.

Old Navy’s plans to open new stores comes as Gap and other brick-and-mortar players have been shutting down under-performing locations.
