ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WAND) — Roch's Place restaurant in St. Joseph announced it will be closed indefinitely after a fire damaged it and another restaurant.
The St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District said a fire broke out at Roch’s Place on Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the scene around 3:20 p.m. and found “heavy smoke” coming from the northwest corner of the building.
The Fire Protection District said, employees told firefighters that everyone got out of the building. One worker was treated for smoke inhalation.
No other injuries were reported.
Additional fire departments were requested to help put the fire out and vent the roof.
Crews were also called out for a potential fire in the kitchen at El Toro. They found a small fire in the wall. It was quickly put out.
“Great family restaurant. I just hate it that we won’t have it at least for some time,” Roch’s customer, Micki Suits, told WAND News.
On Facebook, Roch's posted:
"As most of you know, yesterday we had a severe fire at Roch's. Everyone, patrons and employees, made it out safely, but the restaurant could not be saved! It is heartbreaking to announce, but we will be closed indefinitely for now until we can reopen."
The cause of both fires is under investigation.
