Friday is the first day of the sales tax holiday in Illinois.
Between August 6 and August 15, families in Illinois will not have to pay the 5% sales tax on school supplies. The sales tax holiday is good on things like pens, paper and binders, as well as new clothes and shoes that are under $100 dollars.
Stores across the state are planning special deals and promotions to go along with the sales tax holiday. Illinois' holiday runs about a week longer then those in Iowa and Missouri.
The sales tax holiday only applies to the state sales tax. Any local sales tax will still have to be paid. For more information, check out the state's website. Â
