Seven priests implicated in PA probe connected to Illinois

Decatur, Ill (WAND) – Attorney General Lisa Madigan is looking into the actions of the Catholic church after seven priests in Illinois were connected to a child abuse probe in Pennsylvania.

A Pennsylvania grand jury released a report saying 300 priests had abused more than 1,000 children over 70 years.  Madigan says she will be seeking conversations with Illinois bishops across the state and expects them to cooperate fully.  She goes on to say if she does not get cooperation she will work with state’s attorneys and law enforcement throughout Illinois to investigate.

The Diocese of Springfield says it will fully cooperate with the Attorney General.  The Diocese of Springfield serves 145,000 Catholics across central Illinois.
