Champaign- Memorial Day weekend sees the opening of public pools throughout the area. While it signifies the start of summer, it also brings dozens of seasonal jobs.
Sholem Aquatic Center in Centennial Park officially opened on Saturday, May 28.The pool employs many teenagers from the area. Which allows them to earn a paycheck throughout the summer, while gaining valuable work experience.
16 year old, Ayana Exum, is one of those teenagers. This is her first summer working at Sholem, and she is very excited for the new experience she will gain at the pool, including working with concessions and gaining customer service skills. She grew up coming to the pool, and it is excited to help the guests have as much of a great time as she did.Â
"We're here to give everyone good customer service, let them have fun, and hopefully this should be a good season" she said.
The pool is open from 12 pm to 7 pm on weekdays, and 11 am to 7 pm on weekends.
