SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- Cracking down on prostitution in massage parlors, Springfield City council is considering new rules for massage services.
Â
The consideration comes after two massage parlors were raided by the Springfield Police Department last month on South Grand Avenue West.Â
Â
New restrictions would require locations to pay the city a fee, undergo a background check, and have a state license to operate.Â
Â
Erin Conley, Ward 8, Springfield City Council said "I've also gotten a number of contacts from people, especially concerned with the use of these facilities and human trafficking. This is a real concern, we need to be on top of this, we need to be looking at these facilities."
Â
The item passed out of the committee of the whole last night. THe new set of rules is up for a vote on the consent agenda next week.Â
