SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- Cracking down on prostitution in massage parlors, Springfield City council is considering new rules for massage services.

The consideration comes after two massage parlors were raided by the Springfield Police Department last month on South Grand Avenue West.

New restrictions would require locations to pay the city a fee, undergo a background check, and have a state license to operate.

Erin Conley, Ward 8, Springfield City Council said "I've also gotten a number of contacts from people, especially concerned with the use of these facilities and human trafficking. This is a real concern, we need to be on top of this, we need to be looking at these facilities."

The item passed out of the committee of the whole last night. THe new set of rules is up for a vote on the consent agenda next week.
