Springfield PD warning about payment scam

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) -- A new scam is floating around Central Illinois this one is asking for payment over the phone.

Springfield Police Department said in a Facebook post, scammers are impersonating officers from Springfield Police. The caller claims the person has an active warrant and demands they must pay it immediately to avoid being arrested. 

The department also said anyone who receives a call they should hang up immediately and police encourage you to not provide any personal or financial information over the phone.
