(WAND) - Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth joined fellow Senate Democrats at a rally on Wednesday, to voice their support of the nationwide right to in-vitro fertilization.
Duckworth was a co-sponsor for the "Right to IVF" Act, which would create protections for the procedure at the federal level. According to Cleveland Clinic, an egg is removed from a woman's ovaries and fertilized with male sperm in a laboratory.
One focus of Duckworth's remarks took aim at republican-led bills, which she claims do not protect American rights to IVF procedures, despite them being named as such.
Sen. Duckworth says, "Calling your bill the IVF Protection Act without doing anything to protect IVF is despicable. It is akin to an arsonist selling you fire insurance that doesn't cover arson."
The "Right to IVF" Act will be taken to the Senate floor tomorrow. The Associated Press reports it is not expected to gain enough bipartisan support to pass through a divided congress.
