SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Illinois is one step closer to providing more transparency surrounding fees included in your utility bills.

State senators unanimously passed a plan Thursday to plan to create an online portal detailing utility charges to consumers, separate from delivery and supply charges.

The Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability will conduct a study of the additional charges and submit a report for the public to see on the Illinois Commerce Commission's website.

"House Bill 5524 amendment two is a transparency bill," said Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro). "It was negotiated with Ameren, ComEd, the ICC, and I spoke with the Comptroller's office."

House Bill 5524 also received unanimous support from the House Public Utilities Committee Friday night. The measure now heads to the House floor for further consideration.
