SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The ribbon is cut, and the 172nd Illinois State Fair is officially underway.
From Snoop Dogg and Brad Paisley at the Grandstand to the Village of Cultures and the Midway, there is plenty for Illinoisians of all ages to enjoy.
"Whether you're a returning fairgoer or visiting for the first time, you're about to discover something new, exciting and uniquely Illinois around every corner," said State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark.
State leaders said they are excited for visitors to see the improvements made around the fairgrounds, from repaved roads to enhanced seating and bathrooms in the coliseum.
Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher said the city is blessed to have historic investments for the fair, boosting tourism and the local economy.
"Please come out. See the facilities. See the investments from the state," Buscher said. "It's your tax dollars going to this wonderful facility. Spend time with us. I cannot thank our state partners behind me enough to make Springfield what it is as your capitol city."
Many farm families and future agriculture leaders will fill the fairgrounds Friday for Ag Day, and Saturday is dedicated to all of the young fair fans for Kids Day.
But what is Gov. JB Pritzker most excited about this year?
"Back in 2019, we had Snoop Dogg. MK and I both love him," Pritzker told WAND News. "So, the fact that he's back means we're probably going to be there."
Admission is free for kids 12 and under every day of the fair. The entry fee for adults is $5 Sunday through Thursday, with a $10 fee on Friday and Saturday. Anyone over 60 years old can enter the fair for $3.
