SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Strap in and hang on, an estimated 55 rides will be at this year's Illinois State Fair.

To make sure you remain safe, inspectors from the Illinois Department of Labor are checking all of the rides before they are given permission to operate.

“We want to make sure that we’re going through every nut and bolt and looking at things to make sure that when a kid gets on a ride we are confident that we’ve had a qualified inspector take a look at every single piece on the ride,” Brian Fox, Division Manager of the Amusement Ride and Attractions Safety Division of the Department of Labor, told WAND News.

“I crawl under, on top of, through, I get covered in grease and everything else,” Fox said.

State inspectors will check out the rides regularly for the entire run of the fair, which ends on Aug. 17.
