SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Illinois House Democrats have spent the vast majority of their session time since January criticizing President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. House Republicans said Tuesday that they are tired of their colleagues wasting valuable time.
Rep. Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) criticized House Democrats during a floor speech on March 25, 2025.
GOP leadership said the House has lost decorum over the past few months as Democrats have been allowed to say whatever they want about the Trump administration without voting on any bills impacting Illinois. Although, Democrats know members of the far right Freedom Caucus spend time celebrating the 47th president on a daily basis as well.Â
Rep. Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) was shocked when Democratic leaders turned off his microphone while he was expressing his frustration over House decorum.
"We continue to see debate on matters that we have no impact on while we have unemployed Illinoisans wanting us to do something to make their life better," Keicher said. "We need to get to work."
House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch (D-Hillside) has already canceled session Thursday and Friday. The House will return to session Wednesday after several morning committees, but House leadership canceled every committee hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Representatives won't be back in Springfield until April 7.Â
