URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Stephanie Cockrell has been appointed as council member for Urbana's Ward 5. 

The term starts immediately and goes through April 6, 2027. 

Cockrell holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology and is a licensed social worker in Illinois. 

"Dr. Cockrell has demonstrated a deep commitment to serving our community and improving the lives of Urbana residents," said Mayor Williams. "Her experience gives her a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our city. I am confident she will be a thoughtful, collaborative, and effective representative for Ward 5, and I look forward to working alongside her as we continue building a stronger Urbana for everyone."
