TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – Emergency response leaders released more advice for people affected by the Dec. 1 tornado outbreak.
The Christian County Emergency Management Agency says victims of the EF-3 tornado that tore through Taylorville should be contacting insurance providers to help with debris removal costs. A press release says homeowner’s insurance could cover temporary shelter and property replacements, and companies covering car insurance can give instructions about ways to find new transportation.
The Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) was open in Taylorville until Saturday and is now closed. It served 172 households when it was open for a period of two days. American Red Cross assistance can still be accessed by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. So far, the Red Cross has served over 1,000 meals to people affected and about 570 snacks.
People who need disaster relief supplies can find them at the Taylorville City Warehouse (1617 W. Spresser St.) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. That building used to be home to the Gagne Distributing Company. Anyone wishing to donate items is asked to give money instead of material things. Clothing and water donations are not needed, the EMA says.
Donations should go to Missions for Taylorville and need to be addressed care of City Hall, which is located at 115 N. Main St. Food service providers are asked to go through Mickie Ehrhardt by calling (217)825-8846 before bringing meals in to responders in Taylorville.
The EMA says 236 volunteers found recovery work over the weekend through the Volunteer Resource Center.
