A Japanese news network is reporting that Toyota is recalling its best-selling Prius hybrid due to concerns about brake problems.

Toyota denies any recall for now. This is a totally different issue from the gas pedal recall that affects more than four million Toyotas worldwide.  270,000 Prius models made before this year may have brake problems.

The U.S. government and Japan are both investigating the Prius now, trying to find out if reports of brake problems are accurate.

"What's bad for Toyota is bad for anybody that's driving a Toyota, and safety and security are the primary concerns," said White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Thursday, some Toyota dealers got the part to fix those sticky gas pedals on eight other Toyota models. Owners of recalled Toyota cars don't have much they can do beside contact their dealer. Toyota is sending letters in the mail to affected owners on what to do. We'll have to wait on that investigation into the pries.

Thursday, Toyota reported a $1.7 billion profit last quarter, but now expects to see $2 billion in repairs and lost sales over the gas pedal recall.     Â
