(WAND) — It’s that time of year again! From your oven to your grandfather clock, this weekend you'll want to set your clock back one hour. On November 5th at 2 a.m., Daylight Saving Time ends.
Many people may be confused on whether we are still practicing the changing of the clocks during the transitional seasons, spring and autumn. There has yet to be legislation passed to end the use of Daylight Saving Time at the federal level, however, there are two states that don’t observe it.
Since federal law allows states to opt out of changing the clocks semi-annually, Arizona and Hawaii are the only two states that don’t have to adjust, leaving them with plenty of sleep in the spring and autumn.
Since Illinois state legislatures haven’t opted out, our clocks still need to be set back one hour this weekend, allowing you to gain one hour of sleep. In return, our sunset time will go from 5:50 p.m. on Saturday to 4:49 p.m. on Sunday. This ultimately removes an hour of daylight at the end of the day, but we gain that hour of daylight in the morning.
