Tyus to be considered for Decatur interim City Manager

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Decatur leaders have confirmed Billy Tyus as interim city manager.

The city council voted 6-0 Monday in favor of naming Tyus to the position. He has worked for the city for nearly 18 years in a number of roles, including deputy city manager, assistant to the city manager, public information officer and other positions.

A press release from the city says Tyus was a major part of the city’s “overall administrative operations” in recent years. It says he helped lead a community revitalization project in the area.

Tyus’ appointment will last until the search is complete for a permanent replacement as Tim Gleason leaves to become city manager in Bloomington. An exact timeline for that search is not set at this time, but the city has said it will hire a search firm to lead the process.

Decatur leaders want public input in the search. Anyone with opinions about the position to add can mail them to:
