UI Students Walk to Polls

URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — Four non-partisan groups came together on Tuesday to promote early voting to student voters.

Walk to the Polls was hosted by Illini Vote, ILVote of Champaign County, When We All Vote of Champaign County, and League of Women Voters of Champaign County.

“Our goal was to help students who may be first-time voters or are just intimidated by the notion of voting by making going to vote a fun, social event,” says Terry Maher, head of the non-partisan group ILVOTE of Champaign County. “If they had questions along the way, we could answer them on the spot. If they weren’t registered to vote yet, we could tell them how they can do it right at the polling station. We hope our “Walk” will help motivate our country’s newest voters.”

During the event, students participating in the march were able to discuss the importance of voting with student onlookers.
