(Springfield, IL)

The identity of a man shot and killed in Springfield on Saturday has been released.

Investigators say Cardell McGee of Springfield was shot Saturday afternoon after he tried to drive away from a group of people who had approached him.

It started at about 3:00 Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Manor Street and Manor Court in Springfield. Police say several shots were fired as the victim tried to drive away. McGee's vehicle then crashed into a nearby home. No one inside the home was hurt.

Cardell McGee was 28 years old.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
