URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — The man arrested for allegedly shooting a bar manager in Champaign has been charged with attempted murder.

Fidele Tshimanga, 24, of Urbana, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 8 following an afternoon shooting that occurred in the 100 block of N. Market Street near Pour Bros. Taproom. A 45-year-old employee of the bar, Brandon Hardway, was outside of the business when he was allegedly approached by Tshimanga who then produced a firearm and fired before fleeing.

Hardway was taken to a hospital for a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso. On Sunday, Pour Bros. posted an update on Facebook that said that he is continuing to improve and that loved ones are "cautiously optimistic." There was also a link to a GoFundMe created for Hardway.

On Monday, Tshimanga was arraigned on one count of attempted murder in the first degree as well as a count of aggravated battery with a firearm. A motion to deny him pretrial release has been filed and that will be heard on Wednesday.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
