Victim runs as gunshots ring out at Decatur liquor store

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Police say a man shot at another as the victim left a Decatur liquor store.

The encounter happened outside of JB’s South (1120 E. Wood St.) on Sept. 8., when police say a car pulled up outside of the business as the victim waited for a friend to come out of the store. They say one of the people in that car was 30-year-old Roy Wilks.

A sworn statement from police says the victim tried to leave the scene because he thought a confrontation could happen. It explained that he battered Wilks two years ago.

Police say he walked to the west side of Illinois Street from Wood and turned around to see Wilks pointing a gun at him. They say the victim heard the gun “pop” before starting to run, then heard two more gunshots.

Officers arrested Wilks later that night at an address along East William Street. They also arrested the second person they believe was in the car, an armed man who they identified as 37-year-old Jamar Lee, in the 900 block of East Main Street.

Wilks is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His bond is set at $250,000 in Macon County.
