WAND donates pet oxygen masks to Decatur Fire Department

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Pet owners in Decatur can breathe a little easier.

The Decatur Fire Department received 11 pet oxygen mask kits courtesy of WAND TV. The department had been asking the public for help in acquiring new masks.

Before the donation, the department only had three masks it could deploy. Now, every truck in the fleet can be prepared to rescue a beloved pet.

"A lot of people look at their pets as a member of their family," said Decatur fire chief Jeff Abbott. "It's nice that we have the ability to apply oxygen and help them out too."

That masks will be dispersed to the department's trucks immediately.
