Warrensburg-Latham makes history with 1A playoff run

WARRENSBURG -- For the first time since 1987, the Warrensburg-Latham football program is coming off of a win in the playoffs.

Head coach Scott Godfrey has led the Cardinals (6-4) to that milestone in his fourth year at the helm of the program, which also secured a sixth win for the first time since the 2002 team went 7-3.

What makes Warrensburg-Latham's status even more impressive is the fact that it got here by knocking off a high-powered Argenta-Oreana squad that fared 8-1 in the regular season and finished as Little Okaw Valley Northwest champions. In that game, the Cardinals overcame a late deficit and won 32-30.

This week the No. 14-seeded Cardinals welcome No. 6 seed Mt. Sterling (Brown County), which boasts an 8-2 record and a convincing 27-6 win over No. 11 seed Greenfield-Northwestern in the first round. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Warrensburg.
