SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A woman has been arrested for a stabbing that left a 23-year-old man dead early Saturday morning.

Julie E. Marshall, a 41-year-old Springfield woman, was arrested for first degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. 

The stabbing happened in the 3000 block of Louise Lane early morning on Saturday, June 1. Springfield officers arrived to the 2500 block of East North Grand around 4:30 a.m. where they found 23-year-old Michael Gristy with stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but he died from his injuries.

Marshall is currently in the Sangamon County Jail awaiting formal charges by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s office.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
