Workforce Investment Solutions helps job seekers find their career

Decatur, Ill. (WAND)-- For some finding a job is more than just filling out an application and for one local man, Montae Jones, Workforce Investment Solutions was able to give him the help he needed to launch his career. Workforce Investment Solutions assists job seekers in the job-hunting process, the first step to finding a career is meeting with a career planner.

Larry Peterson of Workforce Investment Solutions says, "I gave Monty three assessments. One was mechanical reasoning, one was one safety in the workplace, and one was on fork truck, or forklift training."

The goal is to make sure that potential candidates like Jones are able to find the jobs that are the right fit for them. Jones found his place in the workforce at Fuyao Glass through on the job training programs.

Rick Price, the Human Resources Vice President of Fuyao Glass Illinois, says, "Larry Peterson reached out to us with the candidate Monty Jones. We brought his in and put him into what we call general utility, and we signed an agreement with an on-the-job training program."

The on-the-job training that was provided allowed Jones to quickly climb the ladder within the company. Jones was promoted from a utility worker to a quality technician within the fabrication department. Giving him a sense of pride as his hard work was rewarded.

Jones says, "Promotions always have an overwhelming feeling, knowing that your work didn't get swept under the rug."

Most of all Jones says the key to being successful in the workplace and being able to advance within the business is having a strong work ethic.

"Your work ethic is being available, you know coming to work not missing work, not confrontational, not being loud."

From walking in the front door of Workforce Investment Solutions to earning a promotion and fulltime position with Fuyao Glass, Jones has found his calling within the workforce.
