The Democratic governors of Rhode Island and Connecticut, members of Congress and union workers are calling on the Trump administration to allow a major offshore wind project to move forward. The administration halted construction last week on a nearly complete wind farm, saying the federal government needs to review it and address national security concerns. It did not specify what the concerns are. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said Monday it’s not commenting further at this time. The politicians are getting involved because stopping work on the Revolution Wind project threatens local jobs and their state climate goals, and could drive up electricity prices.

Known as plug-in or balcony solar, the systems that are already popular in Europe could become more attractive to U.S. buyers now that residential rooftop solar credits are being scrapped under the GOP tax bill. Even before the bill passed, manufacturers reported seeing increased demand amid other positive signs such as Utah recently passing a law to streamline regulations for homeowners to buy and install them.
