Champaign, Ill. (WAND) – Illinois tipped off their season with an upset over a ranked opponent.
The never trailed in its season-opening 83-74 victory over No. 19 Florida State on Thursday night at State Farm Center.
Four Illini scored in double figures, including 20-point outings for both Makira Cook and Adalia McKenzie.
McKenzie went 8-for-11 from the field and snagging four rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
Cook reached the 20-point mark for the 32nd time in her career, finishing with a team-most five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
Kendall Bostic became the fourth player in program history to reach 1,000 rebounds during her Illini career, and she tallied 18 points after starting 7-for-7 from the field.Â
Gretchen Dolan had a career-high 11 points off the bench while also grabbing two rebounds and one steal.
Brynn Shoup-Hill set a new career-best rebounding total with 10 boards, including three on the offensive glass.
Illinois (1-0) continues its five-game homestand on Sunday night, when the Illini play host to Marquette. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
